Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why do I need a SAP calculation?SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) is the UK government's official methodology for evaluating the energy efficiency of dwellings. It serves as the foundation for generating Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and ensuring compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations.
-
How much will it cost to have a SAP calculation?SAP calculations and assessment work can vary based on a range of factors, such as: 1. The size of the property 2. The number of dwellings involved 3. The complexity of the build. Quotations are issued upon application and each plot is priced after viewing the latest set of architectural drawings.
-
How long do SAP assessments take to perform?Timings vary based on the complexity of the project but we aim to turn around most assessments within 1 week of receiving the drawings and/or the project questionnaire.
-
What do I need to provide to have a SAP calculation carried out?SAP calculations take a number of factors into account but to get the ball rolling, we would require the following: Floor plans Elevation drawings Sectional drawings Insulation details and other thermal elements To produce a completed design stage SAP calculation, we would require the additional information below: Ventilation system details Internal lighting specifications Domestic hot water systems Use of renewable technologies Primary and secondary space heating Potential sources of heat loss, such as thermal bridging
-
What is the specification is not finalised for my project? Not an issue! As long as you can provide the architectural drawings and the basic fabric elements, any other missing data can be assumed and will be listed in our design summary.
-
What happens if my building fails the SAP assessment? There are many factors that can determine the outcome of a SAP calculation. In the unfortunate even that yours should fail the requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations, our team will take a proactive approach in finding a direct solution to the problem and work with you to find a route to compliance that suits everybody involved.
-
Am I able to change any of the systems after you have issued the design reports?Absolutely! The ideal scenario would be to inform us before you commit financially to any changes so we can make sure the new system/s are still compliant.
